Watch aficionados know that BALL Watch timepieces are well-known and widely respected for its use of Micro Gas Lights (3H), which allows wearers to know the time even in pitch-black conditions. But to non-students of horology, they might not know that the watchmaker has existed for more than 120 years.
On 18 April 1891, in Ohio, USA, two trains were in a head-on collision, due to the inaccuracy of the watch belonging to one of the train’s engineers. Because of this harrowing incident, railway companies contacted Cleveland-based watchmaker Webster Clay Ball to be “Chief Time Inspector” for all major American railroads. Ball then implemented a standardised timing system for all railway employees, based on extremely strict criteria. Ever since then, BALL Watch has gone on to be legendary for precision, reliability and no-nonsense aesthetics.
From today until 10 September 2017, BALL Watch, together with AWG Fine Watches, will be showcasing three of its latest and greatest timepieces in Mid Valley Megamall: the Engineer Hydrocarbon AeroGMT II; the Fireman NECC II; and the limited-edition Engineer Master II Aviator MY LE. You could even win a BALL Watch worth RM5,000 if you snap the most creative photo at the road show, using the hashtags #BALLWatchMY #BeYourself #AWGFineWatches #HSBCMalaysia. Buy your first (or fifth) timepiece from BALL Watch, and you also stand a chance to win another BALL Watch timepiece worth RM7,800 (and if you buy it using a HSBC credit card, you’ll double your odds of winning).
The BALL Watch Engineer Hydrocarbon AeroGMT II features a sapphire-made external bezel that has self-powered micro gas tubes – a marvel of watchmaking. The 42mm timepiece is powered by an automatic COSC-certified chronometer movement, is water-resistant up to 100 metres deep, and anti-magnetic to 4,800A/m. For all you divers out there, you’ll want to check out the Fireman NECC II (United States Navy Expeditionary Combat Command). We recommend the stainless steel case with Titanium Carbide coating, which makes it almost as hard as a natural diamond. It’s also waterproof up to 300 metres, shock-resistant up to 5,000Gs, and anti-magnetic up to 4,800A/m. Rounding up the highlights of the showcase is the Engineer Master II Aviator MY LE, which is limited to only 300 pieces. It has been deliberately made with larger than usual micro gas tubes to celebrate 126 years of BALL Watch’s history, as well as the brand’s 12th anniversary in Malaysia. It’s also the first ever BALL Watch with a green rubber strap, so get yours before avid collectors snap them all up!
