6 Reasons The I.N.O.X. Titanium Sky High Timepiece Is Out of This World
Victorinox reveals Stellar Piece
The prototype of Victorinox’s exclusive I.N.O.X. Titanium Sky High Limited Edition timepiece was revealed at this year’s Basel World 2017. Esquire got a sneak at the final product, and it’s stellar. Here’s why:
1 | It’s inspired by Canadian astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield, who gained galactic fame when his rendition of David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ went viral. The video was shot in zero gravity conditions in the International Space Station.
2 | Hadfield had successfully docked the space shuttle Atlantis, but had to slice his way into Mir space station with his Swiss Army Knife. The Russian engineers had strapped down the hatch too well! In salute, every I.N.O.X. Titanium Sky High comes with a special white Swiss Army Knife with an astronaut metal inlay and paracord (parachute cord) snap-hook key ring.
3 | The I.N.O.X. Titanium Sky High uses materials reliably tested in space missions. The inner strings of its Naimakka paracord attachment are made from Technora® para-aramid fiber, eight times stronger than steel. It was used in the Mars Rover landing and the repair of the Hubble Space Telescope.
4 | The watch takes its visual cues from space-walk gear, such as in the colour-coded paracord and back-up rubber strap, and sandblasted, titanium case with space helmet-like magnifying bumper.
5 | It was subject to hardcore tests, 130 in all, including repeated thermal shocks and high-altitude conditions up to 21,300m. It passed with flying colours.
6 | It withstands weird microgravity and is water-resistant to 200m. Astronauts prepare for spacewalks and essential ‘extra vehicular activity’ tasks while on mission by training in a ‘neutral buoyancy laboratory’. Used to simulate microgravity and the sensation of floating away, this NASA facility in Houston Texas is just over 12 meters deep.
The I.N.O.X. Titanium Sky High Limited Edition will be available worldwide in September. Only 2,000 pieces will be released.
