While it appears that we're a number of years away from even sending a manned mission to Mars, Buzz Aldrin and Omega have already gotten started on designing a watch that can survive the Red Planet.

Aldrin, one of the first two men to land on the moon (unless you believe the conspiracy theories) has shared the first images of him getting to work on the new watch.

An Omega ambassador for number of years, as well as a high profile advocate of NASA's Mars programme, Aldrin's involvement in the design process is encouraging for enthusiasts of both great watches and space travel.

Although actual details of the watch itself are scarce, we're hoping for a special addition Speedmaster, or perhaps even a new design to challenge the brand's flagship model.
