Harry Styles Pushed a Stroller, Claims Throne to Best Dad Style
He might not be the father to this baby, but maybe he should be.
We, as culturally influenced serfs, have so much to thank Gucci god Harry Styles for. First of all, for being the best former boy band mate since Justin Timberlake. Next, for having no fear in fashion—bell-bottom suits and elaborate prints are neutrals for Styles. And lastly, that the man can do something so banal, and have it ascend into a cultural phenomenon. Something as simple as stepping out with a baby carriage, which he did this week.
To reference Styles' dad style would be somehow incomplete; in the context of fashion, dad style normally refers to a chunky running sneaker worn with jeans, or plastic flip-flops. But Styles stepped out in actual, real dad style. That is, with a baby. Not his baby, presumably. But with it, the man creates an aesthetic that no father before him has ever quite been able to make. He looks calm but authoritative, easygoing but ruthlessly loving.
With the baby as his main accessory, Styles kept the rest of the look low-key, as an omniscient father would. Light wash, slightly ill-fitting jeans because dads change too many diapers for form-fitting clothes. Vans because a father needs comfort first. A shearling jacket because he is still a stylish dad, and plus it was the one hanging closest to the door. And sunglasses on his head, which he probably will spend no less than 10 minutes searching his car center console for because he is truly paternal.
Who’s to say whose baby Harry is pushing? Maybe it's another ex-Directioner's. Maybe it's a family member's babe. Maybe it's a prop baby, solely to taunt his loyal following with the vision of the man they love as a doting father. I bet that baby wishes Harry Styles were its dad. I know I do.
