Astro Boy fans are in for a treat - the latest collaboration for Bata Heritage finally hits our shores and it features five different prints on the iconic Bata Tennis shoe. In celebration of Bata’s 120th anniversary, the S/S17 collection stars the iconic Astro Boy, which first appeared serially in Japan’s Shonen magazine from 1952 to 1968.

Bata X Astro Boy Heritage Collection

First created in the 1950s by Ozamu Tezuka, Astro Boy features a humanoid robot named Atom—a popular science fiction manga character that has been re-interpreted by the Japanese designer Ohya-san in three key styles for this collection. Each design depicts a different stage of Astro Boy’s evolution as a manga character, from the “Atom Born” style, which shows how Astro Boy was created, to the “Flying City” model, which features Astro Boy in action on the side of the shoe. The color-blocked “Toe Face” is a striking juxtaposition of the robot’s wide-open eyes to the rubber toe cap, and is also our personal fave. Two additional styles have been included in the drop, which is available now, exclusively at Actually in Singapore.
