Lacoste Joins Forces With M/M Paris To Create A Limited Collection
Creative typography indeed. They designed the word ‘Lacoste’ in the form of an alligator.
We didn’t think much about it, but after Mathias Augustyniak of M/M Paris said that the Lacoste’s logo of the alligator is the “first brand to use something which has nothing to do with the product as the symbol,” we realised, that is a pretty imaginative logo – an alligator for tennis polo tees.
So it’s no surprise that Lacoste has teamed up with M/M Paris to create a special limited capsule collection. Right on time for holiday gift-giving! But who really is M/M Paris though? M/M Paris is made up of two creative graphic artists, Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag who’s best known for their art direction collaboration with musicians (Madonna, Kanye West and more), fashion brands (JW Anderson, Yohji Yamamoto and more), magazines, etc. Just check out their portfolio here.
You’ll find the embroided “Lacoste” in green and red two-tone lettering on Lacoste’s classics: the short sleeved polo, sweater, headband and wristbands. Augustyniak says, “The first letter L gets it to lift its tail. It’s a stroke of luck. The E, an open letter, looks like the alligator’s open mouth. It works well. We also put two red dots in the loops of the E. The animal symbolises the tenacity of René Lacoste’s game, but perhaps his name already echoed his game. That is where we escape and depart into poetry and plays on words, signs and symbols.”
This collection will be available from the 24th of October 2017 on lacoste.com and from the 15th of November 2017 exclusively at Lacoste KLCC and Lacoste Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
