In case you're wondering why Singapore? Simply put, the island nation imports all of their cas while Malaysia do actually assemble some cars. So all the new models tend to make an appearance in markets like Singapore in short succession while Malaysia sees the new cars released over time. Hence, BMW World goes to places like our neighbour as it is a selling roadshow.
“BMW World of Passion and Joy is the motoring event of the year in Singapore as we aim to unite the past, present and future under one roof,” said Christopher Wehner, Managing Director, BMW Group Asia. “We are excited to welcome visitors to experience this unique brand journey through fascinating exhibitions, performances and activities that will guarantee lasting memories for all ages. In addition, for the first time in Singapore, we’re launching at once four new models and showcasing an additional three models, including the much anticipated All-new BMW Z4 First Edition. I’m excited to say this is the very first Asia premier of the vehicle that was only revealed yesterday at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, California.”
As for us, BMW Group Malaysia introduced the first-ever BMW X2, the newest member to the premium automaker’s portfolio of Sports Activity Coupes. Created to transform the Compact Premium segment, the all-new model from BMW features unmistakable sporty, dynamic and urban design cues which leaves a confident impression both in its class and within the BMW X model family.
Mr. Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia said, “The BMW X models have long made its mark in Malaysia. Last year alone, we delivered over 4,200 BMW X Series vehicles, equating to 39.6% of BMW’s deliveries of 10,618 vehicles. Today, we’re proud to expand our BMW X portfolio here in Malaysia with the first-ever BMW X2.”
Hoelzl added that the new compact premium sports activity coupe promises unadulterated driving pleasure with the ideal balance between sporty driving dynamics and exceptional efficiency. It also offers the best-in-class cabin space.
The BMW X2 is introduced in the BMW X2 sDrive20i M Sport variant. The bold, uncompromising nature of the first-ever BMW X2 is evident at first sight and stands out from the crowd in any setting. The new compact premium sports activity coupe makes a wholly distinctive impression by virtue of the car’s exterior design, while essentially combining the fast-moving body language and low-slung proportions of a coupe with the robust construction of a BMW X model. On the road, it is evident that the BMW X2 has the poise of an athlete in peak condition.
Let's put it this way - the car is supremely balanced. Usually, BMW fanatics like their cars and engines in disaparate terms. No matter how well the Bavarians build their chassis, the engine fitted can over power it. And you need proper driving skills to handle the car which then makes a BMW what it is. In the X2 however, unless you go with Sports mode and a heavy foot on the pedal, you'll quickly notice that the car will do what you want all the time. I'm personally hoping that becomes a thing with BMW as not everyone that drives one has the skill or discipline to actually drive a BMW.
