With more than three quarters of the world's population expecting big businesses to tackle the world problems of the future—based on a survey by YouGov—Chivas Regal has launched Chivas The Venture, an initiative to search the globe and reward high potential startups that uses its business to positively impact the world.

Since Chivas The Venture first launched in 2014, over 3,500 social enterprises have applied for the chance to receive a share of the annual USD1 million fund. This year, for the first time ever, Malaysia will join this global search alongside 32 other countries across six continents where only the most promising from each country will be selected as a global finalist for the chance to take part in an Accelerator Week programme and travel to the US for the final event in July 2017.

The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah, the host of The Venture Final Pitch Event held in July 2016, joins judges—actress and social activist Eva Longoria and Pernod-Ricard SA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alexandre Ricard— to announce The Venture’s year two stand-out winner Oscar Andres Mendez, Founder of Conceptos Plásticoss.

"The results from the Chivas research highlight a number of trends that have surfaced in our work here at the Beeck Center. It shows that Millennials and Gen Z are hungry, motivated and inspired to positively impact the world. Second, young people believe that business also has a social responsibility not just government. As the world continues to become increasingly networked and collaborative, we have an opportunity to shape it—building cross-sector solutions to our most pressing social and environmental challenges," said Founding Executive Director, Beeck Center for Social Impact & Innovation, Sonal Shah said based on the researches conducted in association with this year's launch.

Applications for The Venture Malaysia are now open and will close 15 November 2016. Five shortlisted finalists will then pitch to the Malaysian jury for a chance to represent Malaysia in the Global Finals of The Venture, competing to win a portion from a prize pool of over USD1 million in funding and resources.
