Let's Pause The Batshittery To Talk About Greatness
Michael Phelps, everybody.

Your Olympic Update: One of the best people I have met on my travels as a sportswriter is Dr Bill Mallon, who used to play golf professionally on the PGA Tour. (His caddy was a happy soul named Chris Greeley, who became John Kerry's body man after he put down Mallon's bag.) Mallon's great passion was for the history of the Olympics, to the point where he now is reckoned to be the premier Olympic historian in the US.
So, naturally, when Michael Phelps picked up his 12th individual gold medal in swimming on Tuesday night, Mallon leaped to the electric Twitter machine to put the whole thing into the proper once-in-two-millennia perspective.
Phelps wins 12th individual Olympic title, equalling record by Leonidas of Rhodes in Ancient Olympic Games. https://t.co/q4oH1VrmmR— Bill Mallon (@bambam1729) August 10, 2016
