Post-Despacito Man wants to be 'sustainable'.
Banned by China, cancelled world tour. But Justin Bieber still wants to be friends.
"Friends" seems to be a plea for an ex-girlfriend to not cut him off completely post-break-up. What would Selena say?
The track is a collaboration with producer BloodPop, and songwriters Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter, the dream team behind his runaway hit "Sorry" from 2015’s spectacularly successful Purpose.
Bieber's career is a case study in a basket case personal life not syncing with a pretty good gig.
His remix of Luis Fonsi's mega "Despacito" has reigned at #1 on the US charts for 14 weeks straight and smashed a record for streams across all formats.
But Bieber abruptly cancelled the remainder of his world tour in July, citing "unforeseen circumstances".
China said Bieber wasn’t welcome to perform in the country due to his "bad behaviour," telling him to come back after he’d grown up.
In an Instagram post this month, he admitted letting "insecurities" get the better of him:
"I let my broken relationships dictate the way I acted toward people and the way I treated them! i let bitterness, jealousy and fear run my life.!!!!
"Me taking this time right now is me saying I want to be SUSTAINABLE.. I want my career to be sustainable, but I also want my mind heart and soul to be sustainable. So that I can be the man I want to be." – via AFP Relaxnews
