The film, set in the 1800s, is based on the life and story of Phineas Taylor "P. T." Barnum - an American politician, businessman, showman, and founder of the the Barnum & Bailey Circus - who is played by Australia actor Hugh Jackman.

As glimpsed in the two-minute trailer, when Barnum loses his job, he is forced to reimagine a new future and after coming up with the concept of the American circus, he rallies together a group of unique and talented misfits and performers to make his dream a reality.

Directed by Australian commercial director and visual effects coordinator Michael Gracey, and marking his feature-length debut, the film also stars Michelle Williams as Barnum's wife, as well as Zac Efron, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya. The script was penned by Jenny Bicks and Bill Condon.

"The Greatest Showman" is slated to arrive in theaters on 28 December 2017.
