Gentlemen, draw your guns, flagship smartphones and Leica lenses: This year’s BMW Shorties is now accepting entries. You have until 20 October.
"BMW sees tech as a new form of luxury, and this jives with the company’s initiative for the digital cinematic arts," said Sashi Ambi, BMW Group Malaysia Head of Corporate Communications.
The short film competition has received over 750 entries since its creation, with BMW Shorties productions travelling to festivals in Cannes, Rome, New York and Rotterdam, among others. As much as facilitating access for Malaysian filmmakers to international film making networks, the BMW Shorties has been an unwitting platform for them to cultivate a social conscience.
This year’s competition theme is “Vision” – inventing the future now a.k.a. making the spaceship as you fly it. Entries will be judged by award-winning filmmakers Nandita Solomon, Nadira Ilana, Redza Minhat, Ho Yuhang and Tan Chui Mui.
The grand prize winner receives a RM75,000 production grant and mentoring from the judges. Supporting prize categories are Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Editing and Best Sound Design and People’s Choice Award.
The BMW Shorties is the country’s longest-running short film competition and was launched over the weekend at the Cooler Lumpur Festival in Publika Solaris Dutamas. How to participate? Here: bmwshorties.com.my
