Jose Mourinho Says Man U Needs More Money
Special One says club should give him more to spend on players. And Arsene says...
According to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, success isn't just about having deep pockets. The comments come after Jose Mourinho claimed that Manchester United needed more money after its poor performance against Burnley, in which the teams drew 2-2 at Old Trafford. P
Wenger responded by arguing that Arsenal have always been at a financial disadvantage, and that Manchester United have plenty to spend. In fact, Mourinho has spent almost £300m in 18 months, with the club investing almost £600m since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement four years ago, while Arsenal is said to have operated under financial constraints between 2006 and 2013.
"I have been in that position for 21 years so I will not start to complain now," said Wenger. "I have always had one team at least – sometimes four – who were richer than I was, so I learned to cope with that and deal with that. What is most important is that you deal with your own situation as well as you can and, yes, Manchester City are richer than us and, yes, Chelsea is richer than us and, yes, Manchester United are richer than us. But I still believe we have to find a way to be successful."
In other words, cheer up, Jose.
