A Restaurant In San Francisco Is Apparently Using iPads As Plates

As a native San Franciscan, I'm well aware that my hometown is obsessed with all things tech, but I never thought I'd see people there literally eating off an iPad. It turns out I was wrong. Well, kind of.
This week San Francisco chef Richie Nakono tweeted screenshots of a conversation about a dish called "A Dog in Search of Gold" that San Francisco's Michelin-starred Quince is apparently serving on iPads.
The dish is described as "white truffle croquettes on iPads playing videos of water dogs on the truffle-hunt." Nakono's tweets have the internet up in arms about the practicality, not to mention the cleanliness, of using iPads as plates.

To make sure this insanity was real, we spoke to Quince's chef and owner Michael Tusk about the dish. Turns out it only looks like the food is sitting on top of the iPad thanks to a custom box designed by local woodworker Luke Bartels that holds the iPad.
"The iPad slips in and out of the box and we designed a sheath that is cleaned after each order," Tusk explained.
"The food does not directly sit on top of the iPad at all."
"Living in San Francisco for over twenty years I have witnessed the tech boom and I wanted to combine a little bit of gastronomy with technology and a little bit of education," Tusk said. "Truffles and where they come from is always a question that the guest asks about. [This] allows a dialogue to begin and start the meal in a relaxed manner."
This isn't the first dish Tusk created to be served this way either. He recently posted a photo of frog legs with watercress and sorrel…also served on an iPad (featuring a photo of a frog swimming, obviously).
