If we lost you a bit there with the idea of slugging back some green goo in the morning, perhaps a breakfast tweak is more up your street. Carbs like toast are all well and good, but having a protein-heavy breakfast not only keeps you fuller for longer but provides sustained energy throughout the day. Eggs are a great source of energy, containing roughly six grams of protein per egg which keep your blood sugar levels stable, preventing that mid-morning energy slump.
Smoothies or spreads containing nuts
Nuts are another great nutrient to include in your morning routine if you want to stay awake throughout the day. Include them in a smoothie or have some nut butter which will elevate your blood sugar levels for longer rather than spiking them short-term like sugary cereal or toast might do.
If the above all seems a bit too healthy or time-consuming methods for your tastes, here's the trick for you. Researchers in Wales found that subjects who chewed gum were more alert and reported more positive moods than those who didn't. Maybe keep a pack on you just in case.
