Mortlach may not be the most popular name when it comes to whiskies but let’s just say that this Speyside Scotch whisky distillery does have a cult following. Founded in Dufftown, Scotland during the year 1823 and later helmed by father and son duo, George and Alexander Cowie, Mortlach has announced a new range of three whiskies, aged 12 ("The Wee Witchie"), 16 ("Distiller’s Dram"), and 20-year-old ("Cowie’s Blue Seal").

Known as ‘The Beast of Dufftown’ due to its bold flavours, all three whiskies are bottled at the 43.4% ABV and have undergone Mortlach's unique 2.81 times distillation process. The process goes like this: Mortlach has six different stills, all of different shapes and sizes. They first pass through the wash still, then through the spirit still, and finally distilled three more times, where “the additional 0.81 distillation, which is more than the Scotch standard, gives way for a precise gold liquid that is made from water through six copper stills of differing silhouettes” shares Kabir Suharan, Mortlach Guest Brand Ambassador.

The 12 year old Single Malt Scotch Whisky matures in a double cask in both European and American oak to enhance the distinctively rich and deep balance of oak and sandalwood, with notes of light spice, charred toffee and red berries. The 16 year old is inspired by the iconic and rewarding first bottling of the 16 year old released in 1992 and has been matured in only Sherry casks to impart rich, fruity and fragrant notes atop the beasty complexity synonymous with Mortlach that’s bold and complex–with notes of stewed black orchard fruits with earthiness and spice. The 20 year old is a selection of the very best Single Malt Scotch Whisky that has been matured for a minimum of 20 years that gives a smooth submission and mellow complexity. It boasts notes of dense and elegance of dried fruit, cedar wood, leather and tobacco.

With its distinct heritage and big, bold flavours, Mortlach whisky shouldn't be kept a secret. Because, happiness is only real when shared.
