It's almost always a bad look for a brand to try and get in on big pop culture moments. It's like when Dad pops in on the sleepover to drop off some snacks and then dabs on his way out the door. But with Game of Thrones' final season debuting on April 14, Oreo is making a strong play for the Iron Throne with limited-edition Oreos. Each cookie in this new package will have one of four designs celebrating House Lannister, House Targaryen, House Stark, or the Night King. To paraphrase Queen Sansa (we can dream!) herself, "The lone Oreo dies, but the pack survives."
The reworked cookie designs will hit store shelves next week, starting on April 8. Just like the show, the design for the package is dark as hell, with that signature Game of Thrones-style font. And a lone Oreo sits on the throne, because aren't we all essentially just slaves to the reign of consumerism?
In addition to the cookies themselves, Oreo worked with the company responsible for Game of Thrones' over-the-top opening sequence to recreate it using Oreos. Again, that sounds like the company is trying way too hard, but the end result is just as insane as the iconic show opening.
The recreation required 2,750 Oreos and presumably at least three bottles of Cersei's revenge wine. Sorry, you don't construct a replica of the Game of Thronestheme with cookies and not drink your way through it. The final season of the HBO juggernaut debuts in a week and a half, so stock up on the limited edition cookies while you can, because no one wants to be stuck with crappy snacks—Ramsay's dogs know better than anyone.
