There is no television event this year that's more anticipated than the final season of Game of Thrones. Whether you are excited to see how the many narrative threads of the series come together (or if you're filled with dread about what is likely to happen to your favorite characters), the imminent ending to the long-running HBO series is finally coming. And thanks to the trailer for Season Eight that just dropped, we now know it's going to be an intense homecoming for many of the characters we've been following for nearly a decade.
From Arya Stark's journey to avenge her family members' deaths, to Cersei's return to power, to Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen's union, the trailer for the final series depicts the moments when Game of Thrones' leading players finally come together. And beyond those powerful and dramatic moments, we also see elements of what will make this final run so epic as its characters prepare for a battle the likes of which have never been seen on television before.
And this first trailer sets up much of what's to come in Season Eight. It's light on action as it shows the calm before the storm as the Army of the Living comes together to take on the Night King and his army of the undead.
Oh yeah, and everyone is finally getting to see Dany's dragons, too.
The final season of Game of Thrones premieres on HBO on April 14, meaning we have a little over a month to dissect this trailer for every spoiler possible.
