When it comes to the island of Phuket, there is certainly no shortage of accommodations. After all, the island’s economy thrives on tourism. But with so many hotels and resorts available (not forgetting Airbnb and other holiday rentals), the question remains: how do we bloody choose one?
First, you need to identify the kind of traveler you are. Single and looking to party? Head to the rowdy Patong. Couples or young families looking for some R&R? You might want to consider Pullman Arcadia at Naithon beach.
Located only 10-mins away from the Phuket Airport, Naithon beach is a secluded and relatively quiet beach with no nonsense (read: a lot less-touristy than other spots in Phuket). A handful of restaurants, shops, street food vendors and souvenirs’ stalls are dotted along the beach. Pullman Arcadia, one of the only two luxury resorts in this area, sits at the end of the stretch, perched on top of a cliff overlooking the Andaman sea. As you’d guessed, the views are pretty breathtaking here.
Check in was swift. Our ocean view room is only a short walk from the hotel’s main area. Some other rooms, however, are seated on top of the hill where you’ll have to hail a buggy to transport you back and forth, unless of course, you don’t mind burning some extra calories walking up and downhill. The room is swathed in muted tones, dressed in wooden furniture and comes with a giant King-size bed that could easily fit five. Amenities are modern and the décor is very resort chic.
There are 2 pools in the resort. We much prefer the one on top of the hill which usually is quieter and boasts a fantastic view of the sea. If you prefer laying down on the beach, there is also a direct access from the resort. For extra R&R, we also tried out the deep tissue massage at the Dhatri Spa that really helped our sleep later that night.
Our favorite time at the resort was the sunset hours at the lobby lounge, C Bar. Sip on a cocktail, watch the sun goes down and soak up that beautiful, beautiful view (tip: this is the golden Insta-moment, get your camera ready). After that, head to Vero, the resort’s star Italian restaurant for some authentic Italian food and wine. Here's another tip: opt for the outdoor seating for an even more romantic night out.
The resort also carries out different activities after dark like movie night by the Float pool, Thai street food market, BBQ’s and there’s an also a really cool photo exhibition by local school kids. As far as an island resort goes, Pullman Arcadia ticks all the boxes. And most importantly, it’s pretty value for money.
