Anyone who has been to Phuket will know that Patong is usually a snarly mess and bordering on debauchery. “Rest and relax” are not exactly the main sell at this part of island. If you are the R&R type, look away. But, if convenience is what you're looking for, Hotel Indigo is your best bet in this part of island. Opened just last year, this funky new entry is all about its location, location, location. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, massage parlors, convenience stores all within walking distance. And the Patong beach is just a stone’s throw away.
Located at the “quieter” side of Patong, Hotel Indigo attempts to offer a little bit of peacefulness amid the chaos. The hotel design draws inspirations from Patong’s origins as a fishing village and its neighborhood’s tropical rainforests. In the lobby, the pairing of natural wood carving and art offers a surprising calming effect. Plus, the garden in the middle of the hotel (where you can opt to have your breakfast at) is another nice touch.
Upstairs, the 180 rooms are much groovier and vibrant, reflecting the neighborhood’s energetic nightlife. Think neon lightings, exposed brass pipes, funky tiles and modern amenities (silk bathrobes come in chili red) – but all done with a flair. Editor’s note: opt for the rooms facing indoor if you are a light sleeper.
When we’re not at the beach, we spend most of our time at the rooftop pool. Other amenities include a well-equipped 24-hours gym and a Muay Thai boxing ring. And if you are looking things to do outside the hotel, they’ve also put together a pretty cool “alternative guide to Phuket” that is worth checking out.
At sundown, head back to the rooftop to watch the sunset and get your Instagram shot and then start your night at Pots, Pints & Tikis, the hotel’s outdoor street-front bar for a casual drink and people watch. The local craft beers and Chalong Bay rum cocktails are great options that will gear you up for a night out. Overall, Indigo offers everything you need in Patong. And honestly, you can’t beat the location.
