With this year's La La Land in strong competition for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, and Blade Runner 2045 already looking like the biggest movie of 2017, Ryan Gosling might be reaching the heights of his career. And his next project has all the ingredients to be another major hit.
Gosling will be playing Neil Armstrong in the upcoming biopic First Man from La La Land and Whiplash director Damien Chazelle. If that wasn't enough, the film is an adaptation of First Man: A Life of Neil A. Armstrong by James Hansen with a script by Josh Singer, the Oscar-winning co-writer of Spotlight.
Gosling has been in talks for the project since 2015 and just signed the deal this month. It's an impressive list of people involved with a project that could hopefully do the late American hero justice.
Armstrong served as a Navy pilot before joining the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (the precursor to NASA) as a test pilot and engineer. He, of course, was also the first man to walk on the moon on July 21st, 1969.
Gosling, as far as I know, has never walked on the moon, however, Blade Runner—a sci-fi film—does involve space. Also, in the trailer for Blade Runner, he plays the piano, the instrument of choice for his character in La La Land. Thus continues my theory that all Ryan Gosling movies are connected.
