Man at His Best

Turns Out Nice Guys Are Actually Massive Narcissists

Sorry, buddy.

The saying goes that nice guys finish last, and if you've ever desperately tried to win over a friend's affections by convincing her what a stand-up guy you are, you'll probably attest to that theory.

But chances are, when it comes to untested romantic waters, you might not even be that "nice" in the first place, as a psychology professor has explained. Dr Scott Kaufman, a professor at the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania has told the Daily Mail: "A lot of nice guys who complain about being in the friend zone are not really that nice. They feel entitled to women—they are narcissists in nice guy's clothing."

He distinguishes two different types of these men: those who can't admit to themselves they want more, and those who are waiting for the opportune moment to try it on.

"They think "well I'm friends with her, why won't she sleep with me" and that's not a very nice guy way of thinking," he explains, "There are some exceptions, he says. 'You also have a lot of really shy guys who aren't trying to be manipulative but they're scared of expressing their desire."

He suggests, "If you have a girl that you're attracted to and you have a romantic attraction to them, signal your attention right away and say "hey can I take you out for a coffee".'

Or you know, keep pretending you're just a nice guy.
