WATCH OUT FOR THE MUMMY, TOM CRUISE!!!
IT'S BEHIND YOU.

Eight years ago, the Wall Street Journal's Joe Morgenstern wrote of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor: "The best news about this clangorous clunker is that it may well have vanquished the Mummy franchise." And for a few years, it seemed like The Mummy was dead, but like its titular character, the series has returned to terrorise the world. Evidently Hollywood has gotten to the bottom of the franchise reboot barrel. Here we are in 2016, and Universal has shared the first clip of The Mummy (it's a trailer for the trailer, which is released on Sunday), a reimagining of the Brendan Fraser series (which was a remake of the classic 1932 monster movie) that included three forgettable movies between 1999 and 2008.
What's the difference between this new movie and the franchise with Brendan Fraser from less than a decade ago? Very little! The upcoming film stars hunk action stars Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe, who must really need money. Otherwise, this film looks much the same as the previous three movies that no one asked for: overeager CGI, no clear audience (who is nostalgic for this franchise?), and a plot set in the desert where "an ancient queen whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day."
