Detective Dominique Dipierro, a new character investigating the murder of fsociety member Jerome, finds herself standing in front of the fsociety headquarters in Coney Island. She looks up at the old sign for Fun Society with the "un" missing and says, "You've got to be f*cking kidding me."
It's genius end to a somewhat slow-moving third episode that's still working to put everything in its right place. Tonight was largely driven by style and some grad student-caliber monologues and set pieces. Episode Three begins where it ends: with a Tarantino-esque explanation of the fsociety headquarters, followed by a beautiful intro set to Dusty Springfield (another Tarantino hallmark).
From there, Elliot continues to fight Mr. Robot with self-medication. At once hilarious and terrifying, one Requiem for a Dream-inspired scene sees Elliot strung out on Adderall—happy to talk Seinfeld with Leon and do the dishes. As Elliot is trapped in his own mind, Angela finds herself trapped by Evil Corp executives, eating in a fancy, empty restaurant. Dipierro, seems trapped in the monotony of life, casually asking her digital assistant when the world will end. And It's enough to make you think that the f in fsociety stands for Free, something every character on Mr. Robot is searching for.
But the "fucks" have it, especially as Dipierro looks up at the fsociety HQ and we finally know where this season is heading.
