George RR Martin Teased A Game Of Thrones Prequel At The Emmys
But what about those last two books!?

What a time to be George RR Martin. He's gone from beloved fantasy author to international celebrity, watching his baby win all the awards at the Emmys once again. There he was, at a big Hollywood event, flanked by actors and actresses, getting attention from reporters and celebrities and fans and cameras. But sitting at home were some half-written documents and a dusty old computer where Martin used to sit and write the books that everyone loves. Maybe it's within a file called windsofwinter_draft.doc. Maybe it has a few hundred pages within it—maybe more, maybe less.
Regardless, Martin has some work to do. The guy has two more of those huge novels to write, and immense pressure from fans and the publishing and entertainment industry to not screw it up.
So, why not add another task to his lengthy to-do list? Maybe, a prequel series?!
"I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to Game of Thrones, so there's a lot of material there and I'm writing more," Martin told Deadline backstage at the Emmys.
Though it's disconcerting to think that he's spending his time writing Westeros histories and not, you know, those last two books, it seems like he has his priorities in line.
"At the moment we still have this show to finish, and I still have two books to finish so that's all speculation," Martin said.
Haha yeah. You do.
