Manspreading in the space between Sacha Baron Cohen and prank videos on YouTube is a soldier who thought it’d be a good idea to tell airline staff at the Kuching International Airport that he wanted to blow up a plane.
According to the Borneo Post, the 25-year-old soldier, who was set to return for duty in Kota Bahru, told the staff at the counter that he was planning to set off a bomb he was carrying on the plane.
Except that his ‘bomb’ turned out to be kek lapis and salted terubok (Chinese herring fish).
Three flights ended up being cancelled for the high concept japery, after a bomb disposal unit was called in to inspect his cake and fish and the airport swept for two hours.
Kuching police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said that airline staff at the counter wanted to know what was in the box when the soldier was checking in his five pieces of luggage, when the latter joked about having a bomb and blowing up the plane.
Despite the fact that terrorists rarely announce they have a bomb before boarding a flight, the airline staff member wasn’t laughing. Wondering if his mic was on (presumably), the soldier then repeated the joke. Then got arrested by airport police.
“This is no laughing matter. It is neither the place nor time to make such a joke in light of terrorism threats happening across the world, and even more so when the state is currently hosting the SUKMA games,” Abang Ahmad added.
The soldier will be investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for the dick move, which carries a maximum two-year jail sentence and/or a fine upon conviction. And, if he plays his cards right, a career in middle-brow comedy upon release.
