We often take much for granted. Living in the city, electricty and light come easily through a flick of a switch but elsewhere aorund the world, people can pay up to thousands more times as much as the rest of us just for a flicker of light or energy.
Blown away and fascinated by this predicament, designer Jim Reeves developed a simple, low-cost gear train and generator that uses a descending weight to power a perpetual light source, essentially just using gravity to provide power. Children can now do their homework, study, family and friends can eat together and interact after dark. Check out above to see how he did it.
