The stars twinkle bright at Cannes and the leading ladies and gentlemen of Hollywood have brought serious sartorial game to the red carpet. While the focus is trained more so on the ladies than on the gents, there were a couple of standout men who understood the nature of restraint, paid attention to the rules and came up looking trumps. Learn from the very dapper Robert Pattinson.

For his contemporary thriller Cosmopolis, costume designer Denise Cronenberg (yes, the sister of the director David) collaborated with Italian powerhouse Gucci to clothe him for his role as the young billionaire asset manager Eric Packer. Dressed in one of Gucci’s signature silhouettes, Pattinson as Packer wears a black two button notch lapel Signoria suit with a fitted white cotton shirt, slim black tie, black belt with a silver buckle and black leather lace-ups. Creative director of Gucci Frida Giannini called the look “effortless and classic” and really, who are we to disagree? Especially if it's raging Robert parading the wares.

At the premiere of Cosmopolis, Pattinson wore a Gucci Made to Order peak lapel single button Marseille tuxedo with a white dress shirt, black satin bowtie and black leather lace-ups. Note the manly width of his bowtie, perfect for the broader peak lapel. From sparkly vampire to serious style arbiter; Mr Pattinson, we salute you. We might even forgive you for this.
